Video chats: communication channel of the hour.

New services and features are constantly appearing. It's easy to lose track. Stiftung Warentest now wants to offer orientation.

BlogDouble victory for Microsoft: In a current video chat comparison by Stiftung Warentest, the free services Teams (overall rating 2.0) and Skype (2.1) secure the first two places. Third place (2.4) is shared by the services Jitsi and Teamviewer Blizz, which are also free of charge. In total, a dozen group video chats were tested and five scored well.

Jitsi received the best rating for picture and sound, which is why the testers recommend the offer especially for relatively slow Internet connections. Blizz, on the other hand, scored best on basic personal data protection. The fifth good service in the group is called Discord (overall rating 2.5). With the exception of Blizz, all offers in the test allow at least ten participants.

And what about Zoom? The videoconferencing top dog was rated by the testers as "satisfactory" (overall rating 2.8): the quality of picture and sound could not keep up with the winners, especially with slow Internet connections.

A drop of bitterness: The testers found numerous legal shortcomings in the data protection declarations for almost all services. All details of the test can be read online free of charge.
